North Perth considering new composting options

North Perth is considering new options for local composting.

Manager of Environmental Services Mark Hackett says currently, residents can purchase black composting containers from a store, which used to be provided with a deal via Bluewater Recycling Association.

People can also purchase green cone digesters from the municipality. Hackett says going forward, they're looking at a few new ways to provide the ability to compost privately.

"One is a countertop composter that you can plug in and you put your food scraps and things into it and it cooks it right there. The other option is, we're looking at a traditional green bin curb-side pick-up program, that would be put on in partnership with Bluewater Recycling Association," Hackett shared.

Hackett says soon, the municipality will be engaging with members of the public to get their thoughts.

"We're looking at doing a couple of public information centres where we'd be able to get some feedback from the public and we are also going to do a survey so we can get additional information. Finally, we're hoping to attend the Listowel Lifestyle and Home Show, where we would be able to have some information available for residents and they could ask questions if they wanted to," added Hackett.
