Teenagers with an interest in policing could find summer employment with the Owen Sound Police Service.
Applications for the police service's youth in policing summer program are now being accepted. The initiative is in partnership with the Ministry of Children and Youth Services and offers successful candidates 16 to 20 hours of employment per week throughout the months of July and August.
According to police, the program will see students develop skills to effectively deliver information to the community on crime prevention, street and bike safety and social media awareness under the supervision of the community service officer. Training and mentoring will be provided.
"The program is designed to enhance relationships between police and the communities they serve," police said in a statement. "This is achieved by developing positive relationships with the citizens of Owen Sound, promoting peer to peer youth engagement to address community and online safety concerns and exposing youth to the policing work environment through educational and productive work assignments."
Eligible students must be between the ages of 14 and 19, enrolled in the 2024-2025 school year, and permitted to work in Canada.
