Bruce Power provided a $1 million donation to the Well Community Collective on Friday to help create youth hubs across Bruce, Grey, Huron, and Perth counties.
The donation gets the group closer to their $6 million goal to improve mental health and wellbeing in locals aged 12 to 25.
The Well describes itself as a community-led initiative committed to reimagining how youth access services, using a model developed by the Centre of Mental Health and Addiction.
"We’re concerned for youth in our area as we see high levels of mental health concerns and alarming rates of suicide in our young people," said Shannon McGavin, Executive Director of the Well Community Collective. "We want our youth to be successful and optimistic for the future and this project will provide the supports needed to make that happen."
It already opened integrated youth wellness hubs in Stratford and Exeter with additional sites planned for Goderich, Listowel, Owen Sound, Kincardine and Saugeen Shores.
"Bruce Power is proud to invest in the future of rural youth," said James Scongack, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Bruce Power. "By supporting The Well Community Collective, we’re helping to create spaces where young people can access support without barriers, build connections, and find hope."
