Man arrested following incident involving tractor and police cruiser

A Meaford man was arrested over the weekend after an incident that involved a crash between a tractor and a police cruiser.

On June 28, police saw a male suspect that was known to police driving a tractor on private property. When officers attempted to approach the man, the suspect drove off on the tractor and hit the police cruiser while doing so.

No officers were injured but the cruiser was heavily damaged. The suspect was eventually taken into custody.

As a result, a 69-year-old Meaford resident was arrested and charged with dangerous operation and assault a peace officer with a weapon.

The accused was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing on June 30 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound.
