UPDATE: Strong winds prompt Chi-Cheemaun cancellations

All of the MS Chi-Cheemaun's Friday sailings have now been cancelled.

The Owen Sound Transportation Company announced it would not be running the ferry's scheduled trips between Tobermory and South Baymouth on Manitoulin Island at 8:50 a.m., 11:10 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:50 p.m. due to strong winds. Friday afternoon, the 6:10 p.m. and 20:15 sailings were cancelled by the Chi-Cheemaun captain and posted to the company's social media pages.

Environment Canada has the Bruce Peninsula and Manitoulin Island under a wind warning. It warns gusts up to 100 kilometres an hour could be possible as a low-pressure system pushes through. The strong winds are expected to remain into Friday evening.

Passengers affected by schedule changes or cancellations can request changes or refunds by contacting the Owen Sound Transportation Company, which operates the Chi-Cheemaun.

The Chi-Cheemaun is a key link for travellers and commercial traffic during the sailing season.
