Local YMCA to honour Peace Medal recipients at November ceremony

The YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce is gearing up for this year's Peace Medal Ceremony.

The charity has announced it will hold the event honouring people of all ages who are working to build better communities on November 20 at its health, fitness and aquatics facility at 700 10th Street East in Owen Sound. It has been scheduled to coincide with YMCA Peace Week which takes place across the country November 16 to 22.

The afternoon ceremony will name and honour the 2025 Peace Medal recipients. Nominations were accepted ahead of the event and have closed. Last year's recipients were Joan John and Barb Vandenbor. The pair are being recognized for their outstanding work fostering inclusion, compassion, and belonging in Grey and Bruce counties.

"Through their dedication to supporting marginalized groups, youth, and individuals experiencing homelessness, Joan and Barb exemplify how leadership and service create stronger, more connected communities," the YMCA of Owen Sound and Grey Bruce said in a statement.

The YMCA has stressed peacebuilding is core to its commitment to strengthening the foundation of healthy communities and is part of its year-around programs. Additional information about Peace Week can be found online at ymcaowensound.on.ca/peace-week.
