Chapman’s Ice Cream has pledged to donate $125,000 to a Grey County charity in need of funding.
The Hanley Institute, a Flesherton charitable organization dedicated to supporting youth aged 12 and up, said it is facing challenges in securing funding to maintain operations and continue offering free programming. The charity reached out to nearby communities and local businesses, and in response to the urgent appeal, Chapman’s Ice Cream pledged a five-year commitment of $25,000 annual contributions.
"As a company we always try to support our community where it matters the most and we are proud to be able to support The Hanley Institute," said Ashley Chapman, COO of Chapman’s in a media release. "Teenage years are often defining in people’s lives. The guidance and support that the Institute offers to our youth is essential for many, and there are no other programs in the area that provide such support."
The Institute provides a variety of after-school programs, camps, and workshops designed to foster life skills and build strong minds to the more than 100 students coming through their doors weekly.
The majority of the funds contributed by Chapman’s will be allocated towards essential operational expenses, such as hydro and necessary building repairs. The Institute hopes to continue its fundraising efforts to be able to provide daily healthy snacks to children after school and continue its wide range of programs.
"As the number of non-profits continues to rise, more groups are competing for the same pool of government funding," said Jenny Hanley, the founder of The Hanley Institute. While community members remain generous, their capacity to donate and support multiple organizations is being stretched thinner each year. We deeply appreciate Chapman’s support that will allow us to keep going and so what we love."
