Man tasered during Hanover arrest for drug trafficking

A 47-year-old man was arrested after a struggle Saturday night in Hanover and faces charges including several counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Hanover police say officers responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle parked along 12th Avenue around 7:20 p.m. on May 16.

Police say during the interaction, the driver of the vehicle failed to properly identify himself and became uncooperative with officers. Police allege that when they attempted to place the man under arrest, he resisted, attempted to run, and assaulted officers before being taken into custody.

The man was tasered during the arrest, but police say no serious injuries were reported.

Following the arrest, police say a search of the vehicle yeilded suspected illicit drugs including fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, and hydromorphone pills. The total street value of the seizure is estimated at over $30,000.

The 47-year-old of Owen Sound faces charges including three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, assault of a peace officer, resisting arrest, breach of a recognizance and two counts of driving while under suspension.

The accused was held for a bail hearing and later remanded into custody.
