Minto ready to host Halloween events in Clifford and Harriston

The Town of Minto is prepping to host two Halloween events in Clifford and Harriston this month.

On October 17, the town will host the Clifford Halloween Harvest after last year's inaugural event. This year, the Town of Minto is adding a Scarecrow Making contest to the slate that also includes Pumpkin Carving and Haunted House Decorating contests. Prizes will also be offered for best costume at the event.

Activities include a Glow Party, free balloons from Chuckles, crafts and games, at Clifford Rotary Celebration Square and drop in cookie decorating at the Clifford Arena. All events take place from 5-8 p.m.

Following that, the Halloween Haunt will return to Harriston, which is held on the Friday before Halloween every year. This year the event falls on October 30, and will focus on a Costume Parade and Trick-or-Treating that will take place along the downtown sidewalks. Volunteers will be helping guide participants through the event, which runs from 6-8 p.m.

This year, pre-registration will not be required. However, participants will need to stop in at Tannery park to register on the night of in order to collect candy from the participating businesses or explore the haunted buildings along the route, including the Harriston Town Hall Theatre and the Old Post.

"Halloween is one of the more exciting times to get out in our community, check out the decorations and hit the local restaurants, so we're so glad to still be able to offer families such a great way to celebrate the spooky season in Minto, even with the changes we needed to make this year," said Erin Raftis, Marketing and Community Development Coordinator for the Town of Minto. "Clifford and Harriston will be all decked out for the occasion, as well, so it’s a great time to take in the Halloween ambiance, too!"
