Hanover Hitmen Poised To Join TVSBL

The Hanover Hitmen hope to be competitive in their first season in the Thames Valley Senior Baseball League.

Along with Lucan, they are one of two new teams in the league that stretches from St. Thomas to Kincardine.

Graham Hastie has been putting the team together and says the hope is to provide competitive opportunities for local baseball players.

"We had talked about it for a while, there were lots of us interested and it was about it all coming together."

Hastie says a number of players in the Hanover area either play, or have played for the nearby Kincardine Cubs. He hopes the connection can spur a friendly local rivalry.

"Well obviously they are a good team winning OBA's (provincial titles) and the league last year." He said. "It is our first year so we will just have to wait and see.

This year the plan is to compete among the more established teams in the TVSBL. Hastie says they will not be applying to compete for O.B.A tournaments until they get a feel for things in their own league.

The Hitmen open their inaugural season in Mitchell on May 22 against the Astros. They will not play their first home game until June.
