Fifteen teams will be competing in the Annual Cephas Roth Men's Fastball Tournament in Tavistock including the Australian National Team.
The Aussie Steelers have been playing various teams throughout Midwestern Ontario this week including a double-header in Brussels last night against the Bluewater All-Star team. It's in preparation for the ISF World Championship in Saskatoon at the end of the month.
The format for the Cephas Roth Tournament will feature three pools of five teams with each team guaranteed four games. The top six teams after the round-robin will advance to the playoffs to battle for the 2015 Cephas Roth title.
Local teams in the tournament include the Elmira Expos, the Shakespeare Falcons, Ponsonby Sting and Tavistock Merchants.
The Cephas Roth Tournament is changing how prize money is awarded to teams to give more teams a chance to win some cash: Winning teams in the round-robin portion win $40 per game. The top two seeds win $250; quarter-final winners get $250; semi-final winners get $500 and the tournament champions get $1000.
Also this year, the Pan Am Torch will be making an appearance at the Queens Park Diamond mid-afternoon today. The tournament runs from June 18th to 21st.
