LaSalle Betters Listowel In Showcase

The Listowel Cyclones were able to get the puck to the net in their first game of the GOJHL season but LaSalle kept it out.

The Vipers beat the Cyclones 7-2 at the league's showcase in London.

LaSalle opened the scoring midway through the first period at the 10:16 mark and then scored again just 1:21 later. In the seond period, the Vipers notched their third of the game at the 5:01 mark. Later in the second frame, a LaSalle player was serving a double minor for high sticking and Listowel was able to crack the scoreboard on the powerplay at 14:09 courtesy of defenseman Riley Robertson. But just over a minute later the Vipers scored shorthanded to restore the three goal lead.

In the third period, LaSalle pulled away scoring three times with one goal scored shorthanded and one on the powerplay. For Listowel, Brady Anderson scored a powerplay goal.

Listowel outshot LaSalle 40-29.

The Cyclones got themselves into some penalty trouble. Forward Jamie Huber was ejected for checking from behind just 59 seconds into the first period. Forward Holden Lanskink was also ejected for a hit from behind at the 16:48 mark of the third period.

Listowel faces another tough team today in Chatham at 1:30pm. Also today Stratford plays Pelham at 10:30am.

In other games at the GOJHL Showcase in London yesterday, Waterloo beat St. Thomas 3-1, Guelph beat Strathroy 9-2, Leamington over Cambridge 8-3, St. Catharines beat Elmira 7-2, Kitchener beat Fort Erie 6-2 and Welland beat St. Marys 5-3.
