The Elmira Sugar Kings scored three power play goals in a 6-3 win over the Listowel Cyclones.
Two of those goals came in the first period as Listowel took three consecutive penalites. Sugar Kings captain Rob Kohli and line mate Zac Coulter scored to give Elimra an early 2-0 lead. Before the first period ended Listowel forward Jordan Caskenette cut the lead in half.
In the second period, it was Elmira's turn to sit in the box but was only able to capitalize on one man advantage out of the four opportunities in the period. And on the first Listowel power play of the second period, Elmira captain Rob Kholi scored his second of the game shorthanded. After Elmira's fifth goal of the game midway through the period, the Cyclones made a goaltender change after starter Tyler Fassl allowed five goals on 29 shots. Mitchell native Wyatt Nicholson would play the rest of the way allowing one goal on 11 shots.
The teams would exchange goals in the third, again on the power play, as the Sugar Kings won 6-3. Shots were close, 35 for Elmira to Listowel's 31.
Elmira was 3-5 with the man advantage while Listowel was 2-6.
Listowel, now 1-2 on the season, heads to Cambridge Saturday night while Elmira will host Guelph Sunday.
