A Nathan Templeman hat trick in the third period pulled the Mitchell Hawks back into the game against Walkerton Saturday night.
Walkerton had a 3-1 advantage going into the third period after scoring a couple on the powerplay earlier in the game. Josh Hopkin scored one in the first period and Carter Franks scored the team's second on the man advantage in the second period. Joe Shaw had opened the scoring for Walkerton back the first period.
In the third period, Mitchell's Nathan Templeman scored 45 sec into the frame then score two more goals at the 6:52 mark and the 7:01 mark. All three goals were scored even strength. The third goal of the period gave Mitchell a 4-3 lead at that point. Derek Elliott has opened Mitchell's scoring in the first period.
Walkerton was able to rally and Brendan Welsh notched the equalizer at exactly the 10:00 min mark of the third period.
The game went into overtime where nothing was solved although Walkerton outshot Mitchell 7-5 in that period.
Mitchell goalie Graeme Lauersen made 38 saves on 42 shots while Walkerton's Ryan Winter made 35 saves on 39 shots.
With the tie, Mitchell holds a two point lead over Walkerton in the standings although Mitchell has played 10 games, one more than Walkerton.
In two other PJHL Pollock Division contests, Kincardine beat Goderich 5-3 and Mount Forest beat Hanover 3-1.
There are no games scheduled for Pollock Division teams today or tomorrow.
