Midwestern Ontario Obstacle Course Runner Qualifies For World Championships

A Midwestern Ontario native had a great showing at the Bad Ass Dash obstacle course race in Chicago recently.

Craig Beck, who works at Montgomery Ford Kincardine and Lucknow as the owner and manager, placed 15th out of 1,000 racers. Beck says his fitness instructor, Stephanie Lozon in Owen Sound, also known as Fitness Diva, got him into the obstacle course racing world.

"She got us involved in what's called Met Con Blue, over at Blue Mountain, and it's the same sort of thing, and it snow-balled from there. We've travelled all over the place looking for races, and we train as a team and everything, and it's fantastic."

Beck says the training for these events vary depending on what a racer wants to achieve.

"Training is basically what you want it to be. If you want to succeed at these and do well, then you put in a lot more training. But you can also just go out, and if you just want to accomplish something, just to say you finished the race which is an accomplishment in itself, you can do that by just training a few times a week, as well."

Craig's finish at the Chicago event has put him among the world's elite obstacle course runners for another even bigger race.

"The big one that's coming up, which I was lucky enough to qualify for, is the World's, which is happening at Blue Mountain in October. We'll be heading there and facing off against 40 other countries."

Craig and his team will be competing at Tough Mudder in Horseshoe Valley soon, prior to the World's at Blue Mountain in October.
