Cyclones Score And Hold

A trio of goals in the first period put Listowel well in front but Elmira chipped away and pressed to the last second of the game which ended 4-3.

The Cyclones scored three times within an eight minute span of the first period. Danny Skinner, Tommy Hoogars and Brett Primeau all scored for Listowel.

But the Elmira Sugar Kings shook off the shaky start to flip the momentum and it happened on a four minute Listowel power play in the second period. Ethan Skinner was able to steal the puck at the defensive blue line and cruised in to score short handed. Then with just 20 seconds left in the period, Ethan Wiseman scored on the power play to make it a one goal game.

In the third period, Elmira forward Jeremy Goodwin tied it at the 5:33 mark.

Listowel would regain the lead midway through the third period when Brady Anderson found Caleb Warren at the side of the net on the power play and Listowel's playoff scoring leader tucked it in for the go ahead goal. It was Warren's eighth goal of the playoffs and his 16 points leads the team.

Elmira would push until the end, getting a late power play opportunity and with the goalie out of the net would use a 6-on-4 to try to score the tying goal. But the clock ran out.

Listowel has a 2-0 series lead in the Cherrey Cup Final with Game 3 in Listowel Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m.

The game will be broadcast on CKNX.
