The Listowel Cyclones are just one win away from a second consecutive Cherrey Cup.
But after taking a 2-0 lead in Game 3, it wasn't a text book second or third period to end up with a 4-2 win.
Mitch Deelstra scored both goals in the first period. The first coming on a screen shot from the left wing. A low hard shot beat Elmira goalie Rhett Kimmel. The second Deelstra goal was a spin around shot from the left wing that floated in on the glove side.
But after taking a 2-0 lead, the game disintegrated into penalty chaos.
Both teams were penalized constantly in the second period with a total of 25 mins worth of penalties called including a 5 min head checking call on Listowel's Blake Nichol. That call coming under scrutiny by the Listowel coaching staff as Nichol hit Elmira defenceman Tyler McBay in front of the Elmira bench. Nichol received a 5 min major and a game misconduct and McBay was helped off the ice but returned to the game later and played a number of shifts.
Ethan Wiseman and Jeremy Goodwin would score on Elmira power plays at 5:46 and 17:43 of the second period to tie the game at 2.
In the third, Elmira was tagged for four consecutive penalites and Holdyn Lansink scored Listowel's third goal on a rebound at the side of the net. That ended up being the winner and Caleb Warren added an empty net goal, offically short handed after one final penalty in the period which went to Listowel.
Elmira was 2-for-7 on the power play and Listowel was 1-for-11.
Game 4 is Wednesday night in Elmira at 7:30 p.m. and CKNX will have the call for you on Cherrey Buslines OHA Hockey.
In the other GOJHL Conference Finals, London beat St. Thomas 4-1 to sweep the Western Final and Caledonia swept St. Catharines in the Golden Horseshoe.
