Ironmen pin the Patriots in Game 1 of division final

The Wingham Ironmen did not waste opportunities and won Game 1 of the Pollock Division 5-1 in Mount Forest.

The Ironmen got the opening goal off the stick of Matt Tolton at the 4:17 mark of the first period. Mount Forest responded when Jack Francis was the recipient of a feed from Brady Becker to score just before the midway point of the frame.

But then Mount Forest did the one thing they wanted to avoid as much as possible, take penalties.

Carter Collinson was able to score just 8 seconds into their first power play opportunity in the first period to take a 2-1 lead. Then Josiah Kraayenbrink followed up with a breakaway and fired a wrist shot that deflected of David Lobsinger's glove and ended up in the back of the net for a 3-1 Ironmen lead.

Kyle Stanbury would score in the second period and Carter Collinson would add his second power play goal of the game as Wingham built up a 5-1 lead and that's how it ended.

Lobsinger faced 30 shots and made 25 saves in his two periods of work for the Patriots before Aidan Quish took over for the third and stopped all eight shots he saw.

Wingham's Devon Carson made 24 saves.

The Ironmen ended up 2-4 on the power play while Mount Forest was 0-for-3.

Game 2 of the series is in Wingham Friday night at 7:30 p.m. and can be heard on Cherrey Buslines OHA Hockey on CKNX.
