Hawks soar into next PJHL playoff round

The Exeter Hawks have pushed their way into the PJHL Schmalz Cup Semi-Finals.

Exeter came back twice in the series, first from a 2-0 deficit and then from a 3-2 deficit.

After Lakeshore took the first two games, the Hawks won games three and four. Lakeshore would win Game 5 on home ice setting up a chance to clinch Saturday night.

With 1,100 hockey fans watching, Lakeshore took the early 2-0 lead. Then Exeter took over, scoring five unanswered goals and won Game 6, 5-2.

Game 7 was played in Lakeshore's arena Sunday night.

This time the Hawks scored the opening goal as Exeter's own Jon Baker got things started. Lakeshore tied it up.

Exeter took the lead early in the second with a Liam Melady power play goal. Carter McLlwain added an insurance marker with about five minutes left in the period.

Lakeshore would press and pull to within a goal midway through third. And the Canadiens would have a five minute power play to end the game but could not score the equalizer.

Exeter held on to complete the comeback and put themselves into the next series versus Grimsby.

Hawks' goalie Morgan Reed stopped 29 shots for the win.

The final four in the PJHL will put Exeter up against Grimsby and Alliston faces Napanee.
