The Listowel Cyclones hockey season is not over.
The team has earned a birth into the GOJHL's Sutherland Cup as the wild card after Niagara Falls beat St. Catharines 7-6 in Game 7 of their conference final Monday night.
The wild card is based on winning percentage in the playoffs. That is calculated by dividing the number of playoff wins by the number of games played.
The Cyclones were 8-1 after the first two rounds which helped their cause. They ended up with10 wins in 15 games which works out to a .667 (six-sixty-seven) winning percentage. St. Catharines had 11 wins in 17 games which is a .647 (six-forty-seven) winning percentage.
Listowel will face London in the Sutherland Cup semi-finals and that schedule has yet to be set. The Waterloo Siskins will face Niagara Falls.
Two seasons ago, the Elmira Sugar Kings got into the Sutherland Cup as the wild card and won it. Their assistant coache at that time was Trent Brown.
He is now on Listowel's bench as an assistant.
