The Goderich Flyers have another new head coach.
The team announced via Twitter last week that Paulie O'Byrne was being relieved of all duties with the team, just 2 games into the PJHL Pollock Division season. O'Byrne took over partway through last season and earned the first playoff win for Goderich since returning to the league in 2011. The Flyers lost 3-1 to Kincardine in their home and season opener, and 1-0 to Wingham in the next game before O'Byrne was let go.
Taking over is longtime WOAA executive and coach Jim Fritzley, who played in the league as well. He led the Clinton Radars to numerous championships and successful seasons in recent years. Flyers GM Doug Timmermans says they felt it was the right time to make a change.
"Our team is growing and evolving, and we felt it was the right time to bring in a guy like Jim who has a long history of winning."
The Flyers did state that Ethan Scott will be retained as assistant coach. Goderich lost 5-2 at home in Fritzley's first game Saturday, September 21st against Walkerton, and lost 2-1 in Hanover the following night. They will play in Mount Forest this Friday night at 8:30 for Fritzley's third game in charge.
