PJHL Pollock Division getting tight in the middle

The Hanover Barons' 6-2 win in Kincardine Sunday tightened up the standings in the middle of the PJHL Pollock Division.

With just one weekend left in the regular season, the Mitchell Hawks have 49 points, Kincardine has 47 points and Hanover is chasing with 45 points. All three teams have two games left.

Hanover's win on Sunday in Kincardine was on the back of a couple of power play goals in the third period. With the score 3-2, Hanover went on a 5-on-3 early in the period and Mark Aljoe scored. Then on the ensuing 5-on-4, Derek Cornfield scored to make it 5-2. Add the empty net goal late in the game and the final ended at 6-2.

With the win, the Hanover Barons have an outside chance at third place in the PJHL Pollock Division but they need some help. The Barons would have to win their last two games, in Goderich on Wednesday, and home versus Wingham on Friday, in order to have a chance at the third seed.

Both Kincardine and Mitchell would have to lose their remaining two games. The Bulldogs finish the season with a home game versus Mount Forest on Friday and will be in Goderich on Saturday. While the Mitchell Hawks play a home and home against Mount Forest on Saturday and Sunday.

And depending on the results over the next week, tie breaking scenarios could be a factor involving head-to-head results, wins or goal differential.

At this point Mount Forest leads the way with 62 points with four games remaining. Wingham is in second with 59 points and two games left.

Mitchell, Kincardine and Hanover make up the middle.

Goderich has 18 points and Walkerton has 13.

The PJHL Pollock Division regular season schedule wraps up on Sunday, February 2 with the division quarter-finals to begin the following week.
