The Kincardine Bulldogs have given themselves a chance to capture home ice through the first round of the playoffs in the PJHL Pollock Division.
Kincardine beat Mount Forest 3-0 Friday. That gives Kincardine 49 points to tie them with Mitchell. But the Bulldogs have to travel to Goderich for a game at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
Mitchell has two games left, Saturday in Mount Forest and Sunday home to Mount Forest. If Mitchell is able to grab two wins that would solidify a third place finish for the Hawks.
As for the Hanover Barons, they needed a win Friday night to give them an outside shot at home ice for the first round of the PJHL Pollock Divsion playoffs.
Hanover did beat Wingham 5-2.
The Barons scored five unanswered goals through the first and second and goalie Brendon Landry made 31 saves as Hanover built a 5-0 lead. Bryan Richardson and Kyle Detweiler scored in the first. Chris Ferri scored twice in the second, with a Ryan Marriage goal sandwiched in between.
Wingham got on the board on a Dawson Fahrer goal early in the third period with a high rocket of a shot. Then Resse Vollmer scored on the power play.
With the win, Hanover finishes the season with 49 points but with Kincardine's win Friday and one game left, and Mitchell's two games left, the odds are against the Barons.
However, Hanover had ended their regular season with eight straight wins.
For Wingham, they're locked in second and will close the season at home on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
The Mount Forest Patriots are taking the first round bye thanks to their first place finish and wrap up the regular season with the two games against Mitchell.
