Local junior hockey mourns passing of coach, scout and player

Local junior hockey is mourning the passing of former coach and scout Bill Brown after battling cancer.

Brown played his junior hockey in Owen Sound and also coached the team for a time.

He also coached teams in Wingham, Walkerton and Kincardine.

In 2013-2014, he was part of the Wingham Ironmen coaching staff that led the team to a Schmalz Cup semi-finals appearance.

He was also a key team member in bringing OHA hockey broadcasts to CKNX.

As part of his passion for hockey, Brown also served as a scout in the OHL, spending time with teams such as the Ottawa 67's and Windsor Spitfires. He was a scout with the Spitfires when they won the Memorial Cup in 2009 and 2010.

Bill Brown was 66.
