Vic Hayter Memorial in Clinton

The 6th Annual Vic Hayter Memorial races at Clinton Raceway on Sunday.

The event was moved from July 25th in hopes that some of the COVID-19 restrictions would be loosened to allow fans at the track for the event.

Up to 700 people will be allowed for the $15,000 race which is set for 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

Beyond honouring his father’s memory, Greg Hayter, said the hope is that one day the Vic Hayter Memorial can be a family-friendly event similar to the Little Brown Jug.

Vic, who owned many hotels, but is perhaps best known for operating The Arden Park Hotel and Festival Inn in Stratford, died of cancer in February of 2016 at the age of 77. He owned a standardbred for 38 years.

Hayter says his father was a real people person that way and loved to have conversations.

The August 8th card begins at 1:30 p.m. at Clinton Raceway.
