The Mitchell Hawks were able to pull out a 4-3 overtime win against Stayner in Game 3 of their Conference Final.
With the win the Hawks are now up 2-1 in the series.
Mitchell got some help from returning players that included Ryan Murray and Sean Chisholm.
Murray would end up scoring twice, once on a shorthanded breakaway midway through the first period. And he tacked on a power play goal in the second period.
There was no scoring in the first.
Then in the second period, Mitchell forward Braeden Burdett opened the scoring at 8:34. That was followed up by Murray's shorty at 11:48.
Stayner would get one back late in the period courtesy of centre Derek Sweeney as he swept a rebound into the Mitchell net.
The Siskins would tie it early in the third period.
Mitchell regained the lead on Murray's power play goal at 7:13. But Stayner responded, again scoring late in a period, as Tyler Karl scored with just 28 seconds remaining.
That forced overtime.
It didn't last long as a Stayner player was called for holding and that set up a Mitchell power play just 46 seconds into the extra period.
With 25 seconds left on the man advantage, Braeden Burdett skated into the Stayner zone on the left wing and slid a pass across the ice to the right side where Callan Ferguson was waiting. The defenceman hammered in the winning goal on the one-timer.
The game saw ups and downs for both teams.
Stayner ended up having two players ejected, one for a hit from behind call and another for abuse of officials.
Mitchell got a scare when goalie Tyler Parr went down late in the third period with what appeared to be some discomfort on the lower right side after stretching for an attempted save on Stayner's third goal. He was replaced briefly by Bradley Boville at the end of the period. Parr would return for the overtime after receiving some attention from the training staff.
Mitchell now leads the series 2-1 and will travel to Stayner for Game 4 on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
Game 5 is scheduled to be in Mitchell at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
CKNX will broadcast both games.
