Tip leads to drug and weapon charges

A man and woman from Windsor are facing multiple charges thanks to a tip from an alert citizen.

Windsor police officers arrived at Howard Avenue south of Edinborough Street around noon Wednesday after a caller told police there was a Dodge Neon parked in that area, and the driver was acting suspiciously. Officers saw a man and woman inside the vehicle and began questioning them. Police soon determined that the Neon had been reported stolen and arrested the pair without incident, according to Constable Talya Natyshak.

Both suspects were searched, and officers seized an unspecified amount of illicit drugs, counterfeit American, and a prohibited weapon.

Christopher Carbonaro, 47, is charged with two counts of possession of hydromorphone, one count apiece of possession of fentanyl and methamphetamine, possession of stolen property above $5,000, and possession of counterfeit money.

Rema Halabi, 39, is charged with possession of stolen property above $5,000, possession of a prohibited weapon, and two counts of possessing a weapon while prohibited.

These charges have not been proven in court.

Windsor police would like to thank the citizen for phoning the report in, as it allowed investigators to recover a stolen vehicle quickly.

"Stolen vehicles can pose a danger to our entire community and are often related to or used in other criminal activity," said Natyshak.

The investigation is ongoing.
