Wheatley man charged in series of Windsor robberies

A 26-year-old man from Wheatley is facing a series of charges in connection with a string of robberies in Windsor.

Windsor police said the first occurred shortly after 7 p.m. on Monday at a grocery store on Walker Road south of Cabana Road. A man entered a section of the store not open to the public, then proceeded to select several items. When confronted by an employee, the man left the store. On his way out, the man unsuccessfully tried to take a customer's cell phone while asking for change.

According to Sergeant Andy Drouillard, similar robberies were also reported in the parking lot of the store before the man fled in a stolen vehicle. The man acted aggressively and threatening during his time on store property.

Police were able to identify a suspect and became aware of several robberies that had taken place throughout the night and into Tuesday morning, all of which had a man exhibiting aggressive behaviour.

On Wednesday afternoon, officers from the Problem-Oriented Policing (POP) Unit spotted the man on Dufferin Place near Hanna Street East and arrested him after a short foot chase.

Tyler Charamba of Wheatley is charged with seven counts of robbery, two counts of assault, and several property-related offences. These charges have not been proven in court.
