Construction gets underway at Windsor's Chick-fil-A location

Work on Windsor's new Chick-fil-A location is moving forward.

In an update on Friday, construction company Fortis Group announced on its Facebook page that ground has officially been broken at the site of the new fast-food restaurant.

The Chick-fil-A will be located on Howard Avenue, next to Devonshire Mall. The site plan was approved by council at the end of 2019.

"We’re excited to bring one of Canada’s first standalone Chick-fil-A’s to the area," the post read. "Stay tuned as we progress on this delicious new project."

However, the restaurant is not getting a warm welcome from many residents.

Following the initial news that the fast-food chain was interested in a Windsor location, protestors took to City Hall to speak out against the company's history with the LGBTQ+ community and protest bringing the chain to the city.

Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy has previously said he opposes same-sex marriage, and the company has donated millions of dollars to two Christian organizations that also come out against unions between same-sex partners.

The announcement of the groundbreaking was once again met with mixed reactions from residents, with responses on the Facebook post ranging from excitement to disappointment.

According to Fortis Group, for every new restaurant opening in Canada, Chick-fil-A, Inc. will donate $25,000 to a local food bank.
