Cyclist seriously injured after being struck by vehicle in LaSalle

A cyclist in LaSalle was left seriously injured after being struck by a car on Friday.

According to police, at approximately 4:30 p.m., a red Chevrolet Cruze driven by an 82-year-old man from Windsor was travelling west on Todd Lane and made a left turn onto Canada Street.

At the same time, a 59-year-old man from LaSalle was riding his bicycle east on Todd Lane through the intersection when the collision occurred.

According to witnesses, the cyclist tried to avoid a collision but was struck by the Chevy in the crosswalk on Canada Street. The cyclist was knocked to the ground and pinned under the front of the Chevy.

Emergency crews tended to the cyclist, who was taken to hospital with serious injuries. While the extent of their injuries is unknown at this time, police say they are not expected to be life threatening.

LaSalle Police kept the intersection until about 8:30 p.m. while they investigated.

The driver of the Chevy was charged with Careless Driving Causing Bodily Harm and was also issued a three day drivers licence suspension for having more than 50 mgs of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.

Anyone with information regarding this incident has been asked to contact Constable Sean Bear at 519-969-5210. Anyone living in the area are being asked to check residential surveillance to ascertain if the collision was captured on video.
