Body found near LaSalle boat launch

An investigation is underway after a boater discovered a body in the LaSalle Channel of the Detroit River Sunday morning.

LaSalle police said they were contacted by the boater just before 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police said the body was found in the water along the eastern shore of Fighting Island near the LaSalle boat launch.

LaSalle police worked with the LaSalle Fire Service and the Ontario Provincial Police Service Marine Unit to recover the body.

Investigators said at this point, the person's identity and age are unknown, but it is believed to be a white male. The coroner has also been contacted to help with the investigation.

Police said the investigation is still in the very early stages, adding that they are still working to determine whether foul play was a factor.
