Medicap Laboratories is making a $38 million investment in its Windsor facility to expand capacity and create around 50 new jobs.
Medicap Laboratories manufactures dietary and nutritional supplements.
"We are a contract manufacturing company. We manufacture for small and big companies that really want to put their product in the market," said Medicap President Hema Patel.
The expansion will allow the company to purchase new equipment and diversify product offerings. The new equipment will also allow Medicap to distribute Norwegian Vitux Omega 3 to new markets, technology not currently available in North America.
"We are adding new machines and new automation. We are planning to increase our production capacity by 200 per cent," said Manager of Business Operations Rahul Rajpura.
The first phase of the expansion will be completed by the fall and the jobs will be added over the next three to five years.
The expansion is being supported by a $900,000 grant from the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund.
Minister of Economic Development Vic Fideli announced this grant, along with grants for two other Windsor-Essex businesses, during a news conference Monday morning.
Canadian Premier Supplements is making a $5-million investment to its facility to advance automation. The company received $770,332 through the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund. This investment is expected to create 20 new jobs at the facility.
Cedar Valley Selections, a food manufacturer out of Oldcastle is upscaling its facility to introduce a new product. The company is investing $1-million and will receive a government grant of $162,134.
