The Ontario Provincial Police have announced charges against a Chatham-Kent man after a deadly crash on a busy stretch of road between Wheatley and Leamington on Friday morning.
Just before 7 a.m., an eastbound pickup truck crossed the centre line on County Road 34, sideswiped a utility van, and crashed head-on with a westbound car.
Two people died in the car.
Paramedics rushed the driver of the pickup truck to the hospital with serious injuries, and the driver of the utility van was unhurt. County Road 34 reopened was closed for several hours while police investigated.
Police have identified the victims killed in the sedan as 30-year-old Jacqueline Steeman and 50-year-old Carrie Steeman.
Early Friday evening, OPP confirmed the investigation has been completed and police have laid charges against a 22-year-old man from Chatham-Kent.
The accused is charged with two counts of impaired driving causing death and two counts of driving while disqualified. He remains in police custody pending a bail hearing scheduled on Tuesday.
