Children will have another option for cooling off as the temperature rises in the City of Windsor.
The City's latest splash pad offering is now open at Fontainebleau Park on the east end. Mayor Drew Dilkens and Ward 8 Councillor Gary Kaschak were on hand to unveil it on Friday.
Kaschak's ward funds were put toward the $420,000 price tag for the splash pad, which features a series of sprinklers and nozzles, along with an adjoining playground and benches.
"I’m very happy for the Ward 8 community to enjoy this much-needed splash pad," said Kaschak. "A terrific improvement to the parks system for our residents, and I look forward to seeing lots of smiling faces this summer."
The Fontainebleau splash pad is funded through the City's 2022 capital budget, which allocated $1.7-billion in public infrastructure improvements over the next ten years. For parks and recreation alone this year, $26-million was set aside for enhancing playgrounds, parks and trails.
"We are always looking for ways to re-activate existing spaces, and this installment is just the latest of our local parks improvements that will be completed this summer," said Dilkens. "City Council has invested $26-million in Parks and Recreation throughout the city to provide residents with the quality outdoor facilities they deserve. We’re building playgrounds and carving new trails to deliver results that will continue to help build our city up."
With Friday's opening, the City now has ten splash pads which operate from Victoria Day to Thanksgiving. An 11th splash pad, at Remington Park, will open on June 29. Complete information can be found on the City's official website.
