Bondy files papers to run for mayor in Essex

After 12 years at the council table, Sherry Bondy has filed her papers to run for mayor of Essex.

"I'm registered and ready to go. I have my work boots on and I've spent 12 years working hard for all residents in all corners of the Town of Essex. I'd like to take it to the next level and lead the Municipality of Essex in the very important next four years as their mayor," said Bondy.

Richard Meloche is also vying for the top seat. He's held the position since Larry Snively resigned earlier this year.

Bondy says it's time for the town to have a leader who shows initiative.

"I think that it's time that we have an active mayor, somebody who is willing to get into the trenches, got the work boots on, has their hands clean and finally bring the municipality together and represent the needs and wishes of the residents," said Bondy.

Last year, Bondy was the subject of a report by the integrity commissioner. Her pay was suspended for 30 days after the integrity commissioner found her actions toward some E.L.K Energy staff went against the council code of conduct.

People interested in running for any position on the council have until August 19 to file their papers.

The municipal election is on October 23, 2022.
