Arrangements made for all displaced 1616 Ouellette tenants

The City of Windsor has made shelter arrangements for all tenants displaced from an apartment building on Ouellette Avenue last month.

On November 22, the City of Windsor ordered the evacuation of the private four-story apartment building at 1616 Ouellette Avenue because there was no hot water and the heat was faulty.

Forty-five people have spent the past three weeks at a Canadian Red Cross emergency shelter at the John Atkinson Memorial Community Centre.

The remaining tenants were offered alternate accommodations options on Friday, the final day the city planned to keep the shelter open.

“This has been a very difficult time for many of the displaced tenants, but none of this could have been done without our dedicated and compassionate City of Windsor staff and our partner agencies who worked countless hours to ensure that every tenant’s needs were met,” said Andrew Daher, commissioner of human and health services.

The apartment building is still closed. However, the city officials continue to work with the owners and property managers to complete repairs.
