If you cross the Ambassador Bridge to work or shop in Michigan, you may have noticed it's costing you more.
Starting Sunday, New Year's Day, the cash toll for drivers heading to the U.S. from Canada was $9.25 per vehicle in Canadian currency. It was previously $8 Canadian.
In U.S. dollars, the per-vehicle toll is $7, up from $6.
The toll increase covers all passenger vehicles and empty pickup trucks, though commercial drivers are also expected to see an increase in their tolls as well.
Frequent travellers over the border can save money with an Ambassador Bridge Premier commuter card, which lowers the toll to $5.25 per vehicle regardless of currency.
At the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel, toll rates are $5.50 U.S. or $6.75 Canadian for non-commercial vehicles. There are cheaper rates for those using the Nexpress program.
