Flags are flying at half-mast on Town of Essex properties following the passing of former Harrow Mayor and Essex Deputy Mayor Peter Timmins.
Timmins died on Tuesday at the age of 84.
"On behalf of the Town of Essex, I would like to extend our sincerest condolences to Peter's family and friends during this difficult time," said Essex Mayor Sherry Bondy in a statement released Friday morning. "We appreciate Peter's service as a devoted member of Town Council. His unwavering dedication to the residents of our community will never be forgotten."
Timmins was a Past Grand Night and former District Deputy of the Knights of Columbus Council #5350 and a member of the Fr. Louis Boue Assembly #2355.
He was a research technologist at the Harrow Research Station before retiring after 32 years.
An obituary on the Gerald A. Smith Funeral Home website said he "loved his farm, hunting and antiques, especially his cast iron seats."
Visitation is on Saturday at Gerald A. Smith Funeral Home on King Street in Harrow from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Mass is at 11 a.m. on Monday at St. Anthony of Padua Church at 120 Munger Street West, followed by interment at Colchester Memorial Cemetary.
