The University of Windsor has taken a place among the world's most sustainable postsecondary schools.
According to the 2024 QS World University Rankings, U of W ranked 382nd among 1,403 universities worldwide, a significant rise from the school's 2023 ranking of 641-650.
"We are dedicated to integrating sustainability into our teaching, research, and operations, creating a university environment where it's not just a concept or goal but a way of life," said U of W President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Robert Gordon. "The University of Windsor is taking bold steps to cultivate a more sustainable campus, now and for future generations."
The school's new strategic plan, dubbed Aspire, includes a series of "green" initiatives. Numerous electric-vehicle charging stations have been installed, along with a hybrid cooler, the first of its kind at a Canadian university.
U of W has also unveiled a zero-waste landfill pilot project, and will soon introduce a carbon-neutral plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 45 per cent by 2030, and achieve net zero by 2050.
It was not the first time the university has been recognized by QS World University Rankings. In July, the school was ranked in the top 44 per cent of universities, moving up 100 positions. In September, U of W went up in the World University Rankings by the Times Higher Education.
