A Leamington couple who have supplied the community with turkeys during the holidays for the past seven years is being recognized for their philanthropy.
Mike and Deanna Diab are the masterminds behind Talking Over Turkey. Since its inception, the couple has given away thousands of turkeys to anyone who wants one.
They are among eight recipients of the first-ever Wishbone Awards presented by Think Turkey, a partnership between Canada's turkey farmers and Canadian Poultry and Egg Processors.
The Wishbone Project accepted nominations across Canada for the award between November 2 and 15.
The Wishbone Project is a charitable initiative launched in 2020 to give back to communities through food and financial donations. So far, it's raised $240,000 to combat food insecurity.
Other recipients include Barbara Vandenbor and Ashley Walter of Walkerton, and David and Jean Anderson of Minto.
"We hope the stories of these outstanding individuals inspire even more Canadians to pull together to make people's holiday wishes come true," said President and CEO of Canadian Poultry and Egg Processors Mark Hubert.
The Diabs will receive a $2,500 grant to support this year's turkey giveaway.
"From hand delivering hundreds of turkeys to dedicating their holidays to host a community dinner, these eight selfless heroes go above and beyond each year to spread holiday cheer in their communities," said Chair Darren Ference.
