Local Reps On New Bridge Corporation

The Federal Bridge Corporation that will oversee operation of four international crossings including the Blue Water Bridge has local representation.

Two Sarnia-Lambton residents have been appointed to the seven-member Ottawa-based board.

Gary Atkinson of Wyoming will serve a four-year term while Pascale Daigneault is appointed to a three-year term.

The local board disappears and the position of Chief Operating Officer, held most recently by John Elliott, is terminated.

Outgoing board chair Marcel Beaubien is pleased there'll be two local representatives on the new board.

The new board will also operate bridges in Cornwall, Sault Ste. Marie and Thousand Islands near Brockville.

Transport Canada has said the amalgamation of the four crossings will be more cost efficient.

Beaubien wishes the new corporation the best and hopes the bridge will be as well served as it was during the 75 years the Blue Water Bridge Authority was in operation.
