A large oil painting with a local connect has been donated to the Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery.
A portrait of John George Lambton, the county's namesake and the First Earl of Durham, was donated to to the gallery from two local art collectors Ron Van Horne and Scott Ferguson.
Van Horne and Ferguson picked up the 50-by-40 inch oil portrait at a Toronto art auction six months ago.
Gallery Curator Lisa Daniels says it was painted in 1842 by Sir Francis Grant, and it'll be a great addition to the gallery.
In addition to the portrait, Van Horne and Ferguson have also donated $10,000 to the gallery towards future art acquisitions.
