Jason McMichael will be the New Democratic Party candidate in Sarnia-Lambton Riding in this year's federal election. The 40-year-old Canadian Customs officer and former union leader defeated Joe Hill at a nomination meeting Sunday. McMichael says the NDP is building on momentum from a strong 2014 provincial campaign by Brian White, who has since been elected to city council. The NDP is the first of the major parties to select a candidate in Sarnia-Lambton for the federal election, expected in October. The Conservatives have a nomination meeting set for February 21.
