Suspected Grenade Investigated

Police were in for a surprise today after a community member arrived at the Corunna OPP Detachment with what was believed to have been a military grade hand grenade.

The Ontario Provincial Police says the individual attended the station to report his discovery on Saturday around 3pm, and officers were forced to create a safe perimeter around the alleged grenade. Upon further investigation with help from the OPP Tactical Rescue Unit and Emergency Disposal Unit, police determined the device was a butane lighter in the shape of a grenade.

The OPP encourages the community to notify police of potentially dangerous situations as soon as possible in order to ensure public safety.

The OPP says if anyone finds a potential explosive device, they should leave the device where it is and contact the OPP as soon as possible.
