Chamber Calls Cap And Trade Bad For Business

The Sarnia Lambton Chamber of Commerce feels the announced introduction of a cap and trade system in Ontario is bad for business.

President Rory Ring notes Ontario produces less than one per cent of greenhouse gas emissions globally. He questions whether its right to put the economy in jeopardy while making such little environmental impact.

He hopes the money saved from the program is used wisely and goes toward the development of technology and not to paying down the province's debt.

Under the cap and trade system, companies that want to emit more carbon can buy credits from those who reduce their carbon footprint.

Ring says it's unclear when the system will take effect and how it will be implemented.
