Mourners Gather To Remember Fallen Workers

Those injured or killed in the workplace locally were honoured during a special ceremony in Sarnia Tuesday night.

About 200 people attended the sombre National Day of Mourning ceremony at the East St. fire hall.

Committee Chair John Millholland says there are a number of examples of local workplace fatalities.

In 2014, workers at Violia and Pro Valve were killed. An employee of Signature Events was electrocuted in 2013, and in 2012 a hydro worker and employee at an auto wrecker yard lost their lives.

WSIB stats indicate 902 Canadians lost their lives in workplace incidents in 2013. National Day of Mourning Ceremony in Sarnia. April 28, 2015 (BlackburnNews.com photo by Dave Dentinger)National Day of Mourning Ceremony in Sarnia. April 28, 2015 (BlackburnNews.com photo by Dave Dentinger)
