Environment Canada says very warm and almost sultry mid summer weather is taking hold in southern Ontario. The temperature at Sarnia's Chris Hadfield Airport hit 29 C (84 F) at 5pm Thursday, breaking the previous record high of 28.4 C for May 7, set in 2000.
The weather agency says it's going to be even warmer under strong May sunshine Friday with humidex values in the afternoon reaching the low to mid 30's for the first time this year. Temperatures will be cooler, however, in areas along the shorelines of the still very chilly great lakes. The summer-like weather will continue into early next week before considerably cooler air arrives. A high of 12 C (54 F) is forecast for Tuesday.
