Wettest June In Sarnia In Years

Last month was the wettest June in Sarnia in seven years.

Environment Canada says 140 mm (nearly 6 in) of rain was recorded at Chris Hadfield Airport last month, the most since 2008.

Normal precipitation for June in Sarnia is 83 mm.

Windsor set a new record with the monthly rain amount just shy of 200 mm, smashing the previous record of 170 mm in 2008.

Impressive precipitation amounts were recorded at other southern Ontario locations, as much as 2.6 times the quantities expected in June. Toronto city and Kingston were the wettest since 1870 and 1906 respectively.

The wet weather washed away any concerns about near drought conditions that had prevailed since winter.

June was relatively quiet in terms of severe weather although a series of strong thunderstorms June 22nd produced Ontario's second tornado of the season. Damage southeast of Goderich was relatively minor and the tornado was rated at zero on the Enhanced Fujita Scale.
