Home Run Ball Helps Make Uncle's Birthday

A home run ball caught in early July has not only made a Sarnia man's birthday, but has warmed the hearts of thousands online.

It all started when Mykala McCabe caught a Justin Smoak home run ball at a Blue Jays and Tigers game July 5 at Comerica Park. As a Tigers fan she didn't know what to do with it, and then she thought of her Uncle Paul.

"First thing I thought of was my Uncle Paul, who has Cerebral Palsy and is a huge Jays fan, so I chatted with my family about giving him the ball and we decided to take it one step further and get it autographed," says McCabe. "So we went online and found an address where we could send the ball to and attached a little note. We sent it away waited patiently and it finally arrived a day before his birthday."

The autographed ball came with a personalized note wishing her Uncle a happy birthday. McCabe says she just posted the video online for her friends and family to see, and from there the internet took over.

She says she's received messages daily from strangers applauding her for what she did, even Justin Smoak's wife reached out to Mykala and is looking to send Paul a Blue Jays care package.

To top it off, on her uncle's birthday Justin Smoak hit his first career grand slam. Since, the Jays have won five of seven, and Paul hasn't stopped smiling.
