Locally significant rainfall possible this weekend.

What:
Local rainfall amounts exceeding 50 mm.
Rainfall rates up to 40 mm in an hour.

When:
Today through Sunday morning.

Additional information:
Showers and thunderstorms over southwestern Ontario will move into the Greater Golden Horseshoe and central Ontario this afternoon. Given the potential for slow-moving showers and thunderstorms and for some areas to receive multiple rounds of precipitation, local amounts exceeding 50 mm are possible.

Note that rainfall amounts will be highly variable across the region and not all areas will receive this much rain. There remains considerable uncertainty as to exactly which areas will receive the highest rainfall amounts.

Additional showers are expected through Sunday, especially to the east of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay and over northeastern Ontario.

Water may pool on roads and in low-lying areas.

Don't drive through flooded roadways.

Avoid low-lying areas. Watch for washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.

Expect a day of partly cloudy with clear spells

You can expect partly cloudy in the morning, with clearing in the afternoon

<p>A Chemical Valley alert was issued Tuesday morning as a result of a fire at NOVA Chemical's Corunna plant.
 
At approximately 11:50am, a small fire broke out in the utilities unit.
 
Spokeswoman Tracy Johnson says smoke was visible to those in the area.

Johnson adds the Ministry of Environment has been notified.
 
No injuries were reported.
 
The all clear was issued at 12:46.</p>
